Frequently Asked Questions

+ What can Chiropractic Care do for Me?

Chiropractic Care restores lost function of the Master System of your body the Neuro-spinal system, which controls every, cell, tissue, organ, and function within the body.  When the neurospinal system is functioning at its best, many symptoms that you may be feeling are often alleviated.  Joints stop hurting, breathing becomes easier, pain disappears, headaches vanish, energy skyrockets, and sleep is improved dramatically. Over time, the body is able to heal itself, restoring lost function and releasing your Health Potential!

+ What is Chiropractic, how does it work?

Chiropractic is a corrective and preventive health care that focuses on the neurospinal system for the source of various symptoms. A Chiropractor assesses the function of the nervous system and the position and movement of the spine to find interference or subluxations. With a gentle care they restore proper motion and placement of the spinal bones which restores lost function of the neurospinal system which then restores proper body functions and the body begins healing itself.

+ What is a Subluxation? Or Vertebral Subluxation Complex

A subluxation is a restriction of motion or mal-position of a bone (vertebrae) in your spinal column. A subluxation leads to vertebral subluxation complex which includes the loss of normal vertebral positioning and/or motion, abnormal changes in spinal musculature, irritation/injury to spinal nerve roots, decreased neurologic function, arthritis, fibrosis, and adhesions of spinal joints and tissues, and spinal and systemic inflammation. Due to this complex and its effects, long standing subluxations can lead to a deterioration of health in many areas of the body. Most often we do not notice subluxations until they are there long enough to cause downstream symptoms such as pain, poor digestion, spasm, decreased focus, decreased energy, headaches, etc… Once corrected proper neurospinal function is restored and the healing process can begin, leading to the reduction of many different types of symptoms.

+ What is an adjustment?

A corrective external motion created by a chiropractor to facilitate the body’s elimination of subluxation and VSC.

+ Does the adjustment hurt?

Most of our practice members say they feel no pain and actually feel better after the adjustment. There are a few cases where people feel an ache similar to an achy muscle after a workout. You have to remember sometimes the problem has been there for a while and it takes time to retrain the surrounding muscles and tissues to move and be comfortable.

+ If I go once, do I have to go forever?

You don’t have to do anything forever! However the results are fantastic when people choose to maintain their neurospinal health throughout their life. Maintenance/wellness care plans involve routine checkups to ensure that your neurospinal system is functioning at its optimal potential. It’s no different than going to the dentist for routine check-ups or working out at the gym multiple times per week for your muscles. Visit frequency will depend on your age, type of work you do, your activity level, and the overall condition of your spine. But the choice is up to you.

+ Should I continue Chiropractic Care if I don’t have any symptoms and I feel better?

Our hope is to walk with you through your journey of health and all the different elements life brings. Our approach is to get you feeling better, having your pain and symptoms go away. Then spend time retraining your body and spine to prevent the problem from occurring again. Finally you graduate to maintenance to keep all the improvement you have made and to never go back to where you were and prevent other health problems in the future.

+ How old should you be before you go to the Chiropractor?

Being born is hard work!  Often times, the baby has to turn, roll, tuck, and squeeze before he or she leaves the birth canal.  On top of that forceps and suctioning devices are commonly used to pull the newborn out by the head.  Many times, our first subluxation occurs as we are being born.  We have cared for people ranging from 1 day to 99 years old. We also adapt our style of care to the person who is receiving it, for example a baby is adjusted by using the force you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato, very gentle, in fact if they are asleep they rarely wake up.

+ Is Chiropractic treatment safe and appropriate for children?

Yes, children can benefit from chiropractic care. Children are physically active, growing, and developing through many milestones. Chiropractic care insures their neurospinal system is functioning well through these changes. A healthy neurospinal system in turn helps them develop well, and avoid many common problems. If there are problems or symptoms chiropractic care is an excellent choice as it promotes self-healing without the use of drugs or surgery to create much longer lasting effects. Common concerns of parents that bring their children to us include; ear infections, colic, constipation, difficulty with latching, misshapen head after delivery, delayed development, bed wetting, ADD/ADHD, asthma, allergies, frequent illnesses, poor posture and many others. Chiropractic care helps these by restoring neurospinal function, and allowing the body to self-regulate and self-heal. Go look at some of our amazing family testimonies to read more.

+ Can Chiropractic Care help with headaches?

Many headaches originate in the neck. Your spine protects your nervous system which starts with the brain and becomes the spinal cord. When the vertebrae in your neck are unable to move properly, it can put stress on the surrounding muscles which can lead to headaches. To correct this problem a chiropractor gently adjusts the vertebrae. While there are different types of headaches (tension, migraine) and different causes (stress, poor posture), chiropractic care can be a very effective and non-invasive approach to preventing and relieving headaches.

+ Does insurance cover Chiropractic Care?

Yes, we will provide you with receipts so that you may be reimbursed as your insurance provider dictates. We also provide you very affordable individual and family plans, which is usually lower than most people’s co-pays anyway.

+ Am I too old for Chiropractic Care?

More and more people are consulting chiropractic doctors, especially in their later years. With growing concerns about over medication and side effects of combining various prescription drugs, safe and natural chiropractic care is growing in popularity. Restoring better spinal function can help improve mobility, vitality, endurance, and patient appetite. Many patients report improvement with arthritic symptoms and other chronic ailments often associated with the aging process. The adjusting technique used by your doctor may be modified for maximum comfort and result. As we get older and wiser, the simplicity and effectiveness of chiropractic care becomes more and more obvious.

+ Is it safe to see a Chiropractor if I'm pregnant?

Pregnant mothers often find that chiropractic adjustments improve their pregnancy and make delivery easier for themselves and their baby. Adjusting methods are always adapted to a patient’s size, weight, age, and condition of health. Dr. Ashley is certified in the Webster technique, which aids in achieving optimal fetal positioning for the child’s growth and your labor.
